MultiPlan and PHCS Network Coverage for Addiction Treatment at Brooks Healing Center

If your insurance card displays MultiPlan, PHCS, or Claritev, you may have access to a provider network that includes medical and behavioral health treatment facilities across the United States. However, these names represent healthcare networks rather than traditional health insurance carriers.

This distinction is important when seeking addiction treatment. Although your plan may use the MultiPlan or PHCS network, the company responsible for your actual health benefits determines which services are covered, what authorizations are required, and how much you may owe.

At Brooks Healing Center, our admissions team can review your insurance information, identify the underlying health plan, and explain whether treatment benefits may be available at our facility between Nashville and Chattanooga in Normandy, Tennessee.

Coverage Basics

Does MultiPlan or PHCS Cover Drug and Alcohol Rehab?

MultiPlan and PHCS are provider networks used by health insurance companies, third-party administrators, and self-funded employer health plans. They help connect members with participating healthcare professionals and facilities, often through negotiated payment arrangements.

MultiPlan’s parent organization now operates under the name Claritev. The PHCS and MultiPlan network names remain in use, which is why members may encounter different branding on insurance cards and benefit materials.

MultiPlan and PHCS do not themselves provide medical insurance coverage or pay healthcare claims. Your underlying health plan determines whether detoxification, residential rehabilitation, partial hospitalization, or medication-assisted treatment is covered.

The amount of coverage you have may depend on:

Our admissions team can help identify the relevant insurer and review the policy rather than relying only on a MultiPlan or PHCS logo.

Understanding Your Coverage

Understanding MultiPlan, PHCS, and Claritev

What Is MultiPlan?

MultiPlan is a nationwide provider network that health plans may use to expand access to healthcare facilities and professionals. It is commonly used as a complementary PPO network, meaning it can supplement another network already available through a member’s insurance policy.

For addiction treatment, a MultiPlan logo does not necessarily mean the treatment center is in network or that all services are covered. Both network participation and the underlying policy benefits must be confirmed.

What Is PHCS?

PHCS is a national preferred provider organization network. Some employer-sponsored and privately administered health plans use PHCS as their primary provider network.

If your card displays the PHCS logo, it may indicate that the health plan provides access to participating professionals and facilities through that network.

However, PHCS does not administer your benefits or guarantee payment for services. Your actual insurer or employer-funded health plan establishes the coverage terms.

What Is Claritev?

Claritev is the name adopted by the organization formerly known as MultiPlan. It continues to operate healthcare network solutions, including the PHCS and MultiPlan networks.

Because insurance cards may still use older logos, you might encounter the names Claritev, MultiPlan, and PHCS while reviewing the same general network arrangements.

You can learn more about the distinction through Claritev’s member information.

Why Is MultiPlan or PHCS on My Insurance Card?

A health insurance company or employer-sponsored plan may contract with PHCS or MultiPlan to give members access to a broader provider network.

The logo identifies a potential network relationship, not necessarily the organization paying the medical claim.

The insurance card may list a separate company responsible for eligibility, benefits, claims, and prior authorizations. The member services telephone number on the back of your card is often the best starting point for confirming these details.

Levels of Care

Addiction Treatment Services Your Underlying Health Plan May Cover

Medical Detoxification

Medical detoxification helps individuals manage withdrawal symptoms under professional supervision. Depending on the substance involved, withdrawal may require careful medical monitoring to reduce the risk of complications.

Our medical detox program provides individualized stabilization and support for people beginning addiction treatment.

Health plans using MultiPlan or PHCS may include detox benefits, but the insurer or plan administrator determines the applicable coverage and authorization requirements.

Residential Addiction Treatment

Residential rehabilitation provides a structured environment where patients can focus on recovery while participating in clinical treatment and recovery-oriented programming.

At Brooks Healing Center, our residential treatment program includes individualized care planning, individual and group counseling, evidence-based therapies, and continuing-care preparation.

If your health plan uses PHCS or MultiPlan, residential coverage must be verified through the actual insurer or administrator. The network logo alone does not confirm benefits or participation.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Partial hospitalization provides intensive treatment while allowing patients to live outside the residential treatment environment. It can be appropriate for individuals transitioning from inpatient care or needing structured clinical services during recovery.

Brooks offers a partial hospitalization program as part of its treatment continuum.

Some insurance plans using MultiPlan or PHCS networks include benefits for PHP. Approval depends on the member’s actual coverage, clinical needs, and applicable provider requirements.

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)

An intensive outpatient program offers structured therapy over multiple days each week without requiring residential care.

Depending on your health plan, IOP may be a covered level of treatment. Brooks does not currently operate IOP, but we can coordinate an outside referral when clinically appropriate.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Medication-assisted treatment combines FDA-approved medications and behavioral therapies to support recovery from opioid or alcohol use disorders.

Brooks offers medication-assisted treatment, including injectable buprenorphine medications such as Sublocade and Brixadi when appropriate.

Coverage for MAT may involve medical benefits, pharmacy benefits, or separate medication authorization requirements. The underlying health plan must be contacted to determine whether the recommended services are covered.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Substance use disorders can occur alongside mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and bipolar disorder. Integrated treatment addresses both conditions through an individualized clinical approach.

Brooks Healing Center provides dual diagnosis treatment for patients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

Plans using MultiPlan or PHCS may include behavioral health benefits for integrated treatment, but coverage depends on the policy and recommended services.

How Brooks Healing Center Helps MultiPlan and PHCS Members

The most common source of confusion with MultiPlan and PHCS is the difference between a network and the actual insurance policy.

Our admissions team helps clarify these arrangements by identifying the insurer or plan administrator responsible for your benefits, confirming the applicable provider network, and reviewing substance use treatment coverage.

We can also check network participation, review out-of-network options, explain prior authorization requirements, and discuss potential financial responsibility before admission.

Our goal is to give you clear, accurate information about coverage before you commit to treatment.

Plan Variables

What Factors Affect MultiPlan and PHCS Rehab Coverage?

Several factors influence what your insurance may cover.

The Insurance Company Behind Your Policy

MultiPlan and PHCS do not independently determine treatment coverage. The actual insurance carrier or health plan administrator establishes the services included in your benefits.

Primary vs. Complementary Networks

PHCS often functions as a primary PPO network, while MultiPlan may serve as a complementary network. Network use depends on the specific arrangements established by your health plan.

Medical Necessity

Your insurer may require clinical documentation supporting the recommended level of addiction treatment. Withdrawal risks, past treatment experiences, and co-occurring mental health conditions can influence this determination.

Prior Authorization

Some policies require authorization for detoxification, residential treatment, PHP, or other intensive services. Authorization requirements must be checked through the responsible health plan.

Out-of-Pocket Costs

Deductibles, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket maximums depend on your actual policy. A provider network discount does not necessarily eliminate patient financial responsibility or guarantee a covered claim.

Verify your plan’s treatment benefits

Before Admission

Why Verify Your MultiPlan or PHCS Benefits Before Treatment?

When your insurance card displays more than one company name, it can be difficult to know who is responsible for approving or paying for treatment.

Insurance verification helps determine the responsible payer, applicable provider network, available treatment benefits, and potential financial obligations.

Our admissions specialists can review these details and explain whether Brooks Healing Center is an appropriate treatment option under your coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does MultiPlan cover drug and alcohol rehab?

They are separate provider network brands operated by the same parent organization, now called Claritev. The networks can serve different roles depending on the underlying health plan.

A health plan using the MultiPlan network may include residential substance use treatment benefits. Coverage depends on the actual policy, clinical requirements, and applicable network arrangements.

PHCS does not independently cover treatment. A health plan using the PHCS network may include detoxification benefits when medically necessary and subject to policy terms.

Possibly. Some plans provide nationwide network access, but participation, service coverage, and any travel-related limitations must be verified under the specific policy.

MultiPlan itself does not establish your health plan’s treatment authorization requirements. The insurer or administrator responsible for your benefits determines what approval is necessary.

Yes. Our admissions team can review your insurance card, identify the responsible payer, and help determine potential treatment coverage and financial responsibilities.
