About Dr. Cynthia
I am an accomplished Nurse Practitioner with over two decades of experience in the healthcare field since securing my NP license from Lewis University in Illinois. My interdisciplinary background is rooted in both Education and Psychiatry, which have uniquely shaped my approach to patient care. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education (Kindergarten) and another Bachelor’s degree in Psychiatry – combinations that instill empathy, robust communication skills, and a comprehensive understanding of healthcare needs into the very core of my professional practice.
My educational pursuits continued with a BSN followed by a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychiatry, preparing me to deliver high-quality care across diverse settings. My career has seen me work at Family Health Centers (FQHCs), Primary Care Physician offices and hospitals specializing in psychiatric care. This broad experience also includes a focus on addiction medicine and mental health during my time as a resident at Bloomington Illinois OSF hospital, and furthering my expertise with a fellowship focused on neurodiversity (ASD, ADHD) at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
In 2021, I founded a private medical practice, in partnership with my husband and business partner. We offer comprehensive care for mental health disorders, behavioral therapies, addiction treatment among other services. My personal connection to recovery is deeply felt; although I do not have a personal recovery story, the unexpected loss of my sister due to her battle with mental illness and substance abuse has profoundly influenced how I approach both patient-care and family support in this field.
As I join forces with Brooks, I am eager to champion evidence-based practices, foster a collaborative environment amongst colleagues and clients, enhance communication channels, and strive for continuous improvement. Apart from my professional commitments, I find joy in spending time with my family (three daughters aged 25, 24, and 15) and my pets – Roxy the foxhound and Ripley the German Shepherd puppy. My love for travel has taken me to a variety of beautiful locations, from beaches to mountains, while I also find pleasure in games, reading, and continuously learning new things—a sign that truly makes me feel like an enthusiast at heart!
